about

This is the final album of the 'Here' project.

The central question when this project started in May 2020 was whether the soundscape would become messy and unintelligible with so many different recordings overlaid on top of each other, or whether it would continually change and evolve as things came in at the forefront while others faded from prominence.

I think, having listened all the way through the process, that the piece became a living thing, changing very slowly and in very small increments with each new day's recording. There are also several moments that were added later and remained in the foreground, such as the fireworks and the dive bombing blackbird, which give continuity.

The final version of 'Here' stands at 6 hours and 5 minutes in length, and while it only features a minute of each day, I feel that it provides an accurate snapshot of life for the last year.

I hope you enjoy it.

My biggest thanks to Claire Hamlen & Oliver Ginger for their help and support throughout this project.
